Stopper numbers identify positions within a supplier’s range; the mating diameters determine which part can actually seat in a vessel. Read the upper and lower measurements together, and compare them with the opening at the intended insertion depth. This article previously grouped the following examples by brewing-container size. They are retained here for reference, rather than treated as a universal numbering system.
- Size 00: described for plugging an airlock opening in a drilled stopper, converting that opening to a solid closure.
- Size 2: bottom 5/8 inch; top 3/4 inch; average diameter 11/16 inch. The original application example is a wine bottle opening.
- Size 6: bottom 7/8 inch, increasing to 1.1/4 inches at the top; average 1.1/8 inches. Associated vessel examples are 1/2- and 1-gallon jugs used in wine making or brewing.
- Size 6.5: a 1-inch base and 1.1/2-inch upper diameter, with an average of 1.1/4 inches; previously associated with a 6-gallon glass carboy.
- Size 7: the listed base, upper and average diameters are respectively 1.3/16, 1.7/16 and 1.5/16 inches. The original examples name 3-, 5- and 6.5-gallon carboys.
The source’s fractional notation is preserved above. Use the actual neck measurement and the selected part drawing to resolve fit, rather than assuming that a container’s capacity specifies its opening.
The size of the stopper is suitable for different products. We can search for more information and pictures on the Internet to find products that fit our needs.
Stopper & Plug Size Catalog
Compare four stopper profiles and check the selected part dimensions against your opening and available depth. Each profile has its own drawing and dimension meanings.
Custom colors are available to your Pantone color code. Include the code in your inquiry.
RST T-Shaped Plugs
Match stem diameter A, flange diameter B, stem length C and flange thickness D. E refers to the underside recess; use the selected row and approved drawing to confirm the actual profile.

RSA Tapered Corks
Compare large-end diameter A, small-end diameter B and Height, in mm. The mating bore and required seating depth determine where the taper contacts the opening.

RSB Undercut Plugs
Compare neck diameter A, flange diameter B, flange-to-lip distance C and flange thickness D. Check panel thickness and rear clearance. E refers to the underside recess.

RSD T-Shaped Stoppers
Compare stem diameter A, flange diameter B, stem length C and head thickness D, in mm. Check the seating surface and available depth as well as the hole diameter.
