What are actually rubber stoppers? Well, rubber stoppers are cylindrical-shaped objects that are inserted in the opening of laboratory equipment to seal the openings because they offer great water resistance and dust repellency. Other than sealing they are used in making a tight circle of liquids that can make complicated experiments possible. Also, these rubber stoppers are used in the alcohol brewing process since there is a gas that has to come out of the container because otherwise, it could lead to some dangerous situations.
They work in a really simple way. They are tight around the opening and they basically seal it. There are a bunch of different rubber stopper sizes and they come in three variants. Without a hole, with one hole, and with two holes. If you are not completely sure how you are going to use them, it is best to buy them without holes because at the end of the day you might be using them just like caps. If you plan on using them in experiments there are two options, stoppers with one hole or with two holes. Those with one hole are great because through that you can measure the temperature and you can also place indicators to measure other things for example a pH indicator.
The rubber stoppers as their name says, are made from rubber but not just a regular rubber. They are made from synthetic rubber that has very good characteristics like good temperature resistance and is elastic enough to fit snugly on the opening of the glass equipment. The only thing you will need to do is to measure the holes of your glassware to ensure that you are going to pick the right rubber stopper sizes. When you know the correct size, you find them on the chart of the manufacturer and order them. RSA Tapered Corks
Compare large-end diameter A, small-end diameter B and Height, in mm. The mating bore and required seating depth determine where the taper contacts the opening.
RSB Undercut Plugs
Compare neck diameter A, flange diameter B, flange-to-lip distance C and flange thickness D. Check panel thickness and rear clearance. E refers to the underside recess.
RSD T-Shaped Stoppers
Compare stem diameter A, flange diameter B, stem length C and head thickness D, in mm. Check the seating surface and available depth as well as the hole diameter.
