Opaque white silicone tubing
Opaque white silicone tubing or hose is composed of a rubbery thermoset material that offers flexibility, resilience and resistance to atmospheric conditions. Additionally, this material’s capability to withstand UV rays, radiation and ozone is what helps it become a great option for applications that are used for both electrics, outdoors and sterilization.
They are manufactured from silicone rubber, the material is irreactive, elastic and high temperature resistant. Opaque white silicone tubing can withstand ozone, the weather, cleaning agents, seawater, oil from engines and transmissions, non-petroleum brake fluid, hydraulic liquids that are fire resistant, oils from plants and animals, and chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons that have a high molecular weight.
For flexibility, opaque white silicone tubing features a Shore A hardness of 50 as well as an opaque appearance for visual fluids inspection. In addition, there is a working temperature range of -150 to +500 degrees F and it can be sanitized using either steam or gas for repetitive use.
When opaque white silicone tubing is considered for a peristaltic pump, its fit in the pump head is as important as its appearance. Match the bore and wall section to the equipment and evaluate how the selected tube behaves through repeated compression. The opaque wall does not provide a clear view of the fluid inside. A medical or laboratory application also requires suitability for that particular use; white color and the silicone material name alone do not establish it.
Furthermore, one of the main benefits of opaque white silicone tubing, which is exceptionally resistant to heat and cold over an extensive temperature range, has enabled its use in applications that require an adaptable tubing to handle temperatures that are not an option with other elastomers or rubbers. Opaque white silicone tubing also may be applied for low-pressure steam sterilization or may be sterilized by autoclaving at up to 250°F (121°C) in a normal sterilization cycle. It is important to note, however, that when subjected to repetitive steam sterilization, long-term high temperature or pressure, silicone will gradually relax and turn “rubbery” at which point it should be replaced.

- Product form
- Hollow elastomer tubing for a fitted line or sleeve
- Material
- Silicone. Specify the compound grade for the selected service.
- Application focus
- Peristaltic pumping, medical-device assemblies and laboratory connections. Size the part against the selected assembly.
- Dimensions to confirm
- Inside diameter, outside diameter, wall thickness and cut length. Match these to peristaltic pumping and medical-device assemblies.
- Opacity
- Specify the required light blocking and check the finished wall thickness rather than relying on color alone.
- Color reference
- White. Approve the shade on the selected compound and finished surface.
- Contact conditions
- Cleaning agents, lubricating oil, hydraulic fluid, steam and other gases: define concentration, temperature and contact time, then check compatibility with the chosen compound.
- Exposure to evaluate
- Sunlight or UV, ozone, outdoor weather and oil splash. Validate the selected material under the combined conditions.
- Pump-head compatibility
- The described uses include peristaltic pumping. Match bore and wall to the pump head and check recovery over the required number of cycles.
- Cleaning and reuse
- Specify the cleaning or sterilization cycle discussed for the application, including temperature, duration and permitted reuse.
- Line layout
- Check bend radius, unsupported spans and clearance at both connections.
