Flexible rubber hoses
Flexible rubber hoses connect components where the route cannot be handled by a rigid straight pipe. Their hollow passage carries the medium, while the hose wall and any reinforcement must suit the bends and movement along that route. When comparing designs, consider the inside clearance, outside envelope and space near each connection. A hose that feels flexible by hand can still be unsuitable for a tight turn in the installed assembly.
Natural and synthetic rubbers offer different combinations of flexibility and resistance to fluids and the environment. Neither category defines a hose’s complete performance. Choose the actual compound and construction for the medium, pressure, vacuum and temperature; synthetic rubber is not automatically suitable for every fuel or chemical.
A natural-rubber hose is not inherently sterile. Food, pharmaceutical or medical applications require assessment of the finished product and its cleaning or sterilization conditions. During installation, check that the connections remain secure and that bending does not flatten the bore. Include inspection and replacement criteria appropriate to the service.
