Low durometer silicone tubing
Low durometer silicone tubing uses a relatively soft silicone formulation. Hardness describes one aspect of the material; the flexibility of the finished tube also depends on bore and wall geometry. State the hardness scale and tolerance alongside the dimensions when comparing options.
A soft wall can make routing easier but may also deform under clamping, bending, pressure or vacuum. Check that the tube retains the required passage on the intended fittings and throughout its route. For a pump that repeatedly squeezes the tube, assess the selected construction in that pump rather than choosing by softness alone.
Chemical compatibility and temperature limits must be assessed independently of hardness. Low durometer tubing does not preserve the temperature of a fluid or prevent steam from condensing during transport. Steam service needs a suitable tube and system design that account for pressure, heat loss and the actual operating cycle.
