Threaded screws and fasteners are the pieces of equipment that find their applications in most industries across the globe. For protecting the outer layer of these fasteners, screws, nuts, and bolts, nut caps are used. The nut caps can be made of numerous materials, such as brass, steel, nylon, chromium, or rubber. The ones made of rubber are commonly known as rubber nut caps. They’re known for their rotund and bulb-like shape and are also called domed nuts or acorn nuts.
The rubber nut caps come with many desirable properties such as temperature resistance, water resistance, withstanding pressure and compression, weather resistance, and durability. They’re also anti-corrosion and prevent moisture buildup on the fastener’s exterior surface. Furthermore, they help prolong the longevity of bolts and screws by providing dust and decay protection. With lightly elastic properties, the rubber nut caps may also stretch a little to fit the body of a larger-sized fastener without shredding or tearing damage. Additionally, these nut caps aren’t easily breakable. If their shape suits the screws and bolts well, they can also be used as a fastener decorator!
The various uses of rubber nut caps are highlighted as follows:
Covering Unsightly Fasteners – Many fasteners, screws, bolts, and nuts used in households don’t have a good finish. Their design isn’t visually appealing. Hence, rubber nut caps are used to conceal or cover them to achieve an aesthetically pleasing look.
Securing Sharp Fasteners- The sharp ends of a fastener, thread, or screw can cause physical injuries/cuts to a person working with them. Nut caps secure such short ends to provide added protection.
Fastener Safeguarding and Stability – Over and above everything else, nut caps are used to protect the fastener from external damage caused by heat, dust, pressure, or moisture.
