Silicone Rubber Caps
Silicone rubber caps can mask selected areas during a surface-finishing process. The cap covers a projecting end or feature that must remain free of the finish. Its cavity, depth and sealing edge should match the part and the intended masking boundary.
For powder coating or e-coating, consider the full process cycle, including pretreatment, bath exposure and curing. Anodizing and abrasive blasting introduce different chemical or mechanical demands. Select the cap compound and construction for the actual process rather than assigning one temperature limit to every silicone cap.
When comparing cap inside diameters in the 1 mm to 47 mm range, also check wall thickness and usable depth. A diameter match alone does not establish retention during handling or removal after curing. Trial the selected cap on the component and inspect the masked boundary, cap condition and ease of removal before repeated use.
