Silicone keypads

As you know, rubber can be used to manufacture an array of different things. You can create grommets, pipes, tubing, anti-vibration devices, and so many other products just by using rubber. Another product that is usually made from rubber, silicone to be precise, are the keypads.

Silicone keypads are much more popular than you might think. We are sure you have at least one or two silicone keypads in your household, if not in your room. If you were to take a look at your remote controller, chances are, it does not have separate silicone buttons but much rather a silicone keypad underneath the plastic surface.

Many devices use silicone keypads, not just remote controllers. However, remote controllers are the most popular device to sport a silicone keypad, and for a good reason. We use our remote controllers on a daily basis, and solely for that reason, we need them to have durable, long-lasting buttons that are not prone to breaking down, jamming or being otherwise impaired or damaged. Additionally, most of us enjoy snacking while watching TV, which means we will more often than not use the remote controller with so much debris on our fingers that it would be really easy to jam or clog the remote if it weren’t for silicone keypads. Since keypads are essentially a carved up piece of rubber, in this case, silicone, dust or food particles cannot reach the circuit board and the electronics that lie underneath, which is precisely why we see remotes with keypads instead of separate keys.
