Thin wall silicone tubing
Thin wall silicone tubing combines a relatively small wall thickness with a specified bore. For a round tube, wall thickness is half the difference between outside and inside diameter. A thinner wall can reduce the outside envelope, but its suitability depends on how the tube is supported and loaded.
Compare pressure, vacuum and bend requirements before reducing the wall. A thin section may kink at a tight turn or deform at a clamp even when it fits the available space. Specify both diameters and their tolerances, then check the resulting wall and connection fit on the actual route.
Use the selected silicone compound’s limits for the medium and temperature. Increasing wall thickness does not make an incompatible chemical suitable, and a thin wall is not appropriate for a fixed percentage of all applications. Food contact, fuel and steam duties should each be assessed for the particular finished tube.
