Silicone is one of the most stable forms of rubber, thanks to its siloxane bonds. Its binding energy is very high, especially compared to some other organic polymers, which means that a silicone product, such as a transparent vial stopper, will have much higher heat resistance, chemical stability and better electrical insulation. As you can imagine, all of these are essential qualities for a vial stopper. For example, a transparent vial stopper can withstand temperatures as high as 270 degrees Celsius, and as low as negative 20 degrees Celsius, which means that vials can be safely stored in a refrigerator or a cooler, but they can also be safely used in a vortex mixer which spins at very high speeds and generates quite a bit of heat.
