A thin rubber hose, as you can tell from the name, is a rubber hose with a thin wall. While some other rubber hoses and pipes are created strong and durable, ready to be applied in the harshest of environments, a thin rubber hose is quite not. Sturdiness and rigidity is not its strong suit – as you can so clearly tell from the name. However, what is a strong suit of a thin rubber hose is elasticity, flexibility, and tear resistance. You could easily tie up a thin rubber hose in a knot, untie it, and still use it like nothing had ever happened. Another neat thing about these thin rubber hoses is that they are incredibly easy to transport. Most hoses are curled up and shipped and transported that way. However, since they’re circular and pretty tough – they take up a lot of space. On the other hand, a thin rubber hose can be pressed into a virtual piece of rubbery paper, eliminating all the unused space from the equation – making it perfect for shipping and transportation.
Due to its elasticity and flexibility, it becomes quite obvious that not just any rubber can be used for manufacturing of the thin rubber hose. In fact, only a handful of synthetic rubbers can be used for these products. The most popular option has to be silicone.
Silicone is a synthetic rubber, but also an elastomer, meaning it is very responsive and resilient to physical changes. in other words, you can bend it, step on it, tie it up – and it would always revert back to its old state. Also, one would think that a thin hose would easily melt or catch on fire, but that’s not the case with silicone thing rubber hoses. Those are really hard to burn, or melt.
