As you can probably imagine, not every silicone tubing is made the same way. Some are soft and flexible, while others are a bit more rigid and less flexible. However, there is a limit as to how firm and rigid a regular silicone tube can be. Therefore, you have to add something to the mix. That is how silicone braided tubing is created. Generally speaking, braided products are a lot more durable than non-braided ones, and that is also the case for silicone braided tubing. Usually, reinforcements like yarn, polyester, or kevlar are added to the mix to make the silicone braided tubing. You can also find platinum cured polyester silicone braided tubing for even better performance and durability.
Where you would often find these kinds of tubes are in your backyard, as most of the high-end garden hoses are made from braided silicone. As hoses don’t really need to be that flexible but should instead be a lot more durable and rigid, braided silicone is the best possible choice. However, that is hardly the extent of the use of this product. Braided silicone tubing can also be found in many other places, for instance, in food processing facilities. Also, some PC builders choose braided silicone tubes for water-cooling their machines, but this is mostly due to aesthetics, not practical use.
Just like regular silicone tubing, braided tubing can also be customized in pretty much every conceivable way. You may find it in many different colours because silicone is easily dyed, and you can also find it in whichever size you might want it – as long as it is within reason. Walls of silicone braided tubes will generally be a bit thicker compared to the regular tubing and will usually be somewhere in the vicinity of 70 Shore A in terms of hardness.
