Stoppers or also known as bung plugs are an essential equipment that you often forget when we talk about laboratory equipment. When we say laboratory, you always think of eprouvettes, Erlenmeyer, metallic stands, torches, scales, and thermometers. But these stoppers or bungs are as important as the previously mentioned objects. Just make sure you choose the right stopper sizes if you want the best outcome.

They are made to tight seal the glass made equipment and not to let the chemical escape from the glassware whether that is a liquid or a gas. Also, they are used to help the brewing process of the alcohol because when it ferments it releases gas and if you let that gas collect you might have an explosion in your brewery.

Also, there are different types such as: without holes when you need them just like a cap, with one hole if you need to put something in the container like an indicator, or with two holes to help the process of distillation and extraction of gasses. The material that these stoppers are made from is usually rubber since it is elastic and can fit tightly on the opening of the glassware. 

When it comes to stopper sizes, there are many that you can choose from but before that, you will need to measure the hole that you will try to put the stopper in. The diameter of the hole is the first thing you need to measure, then you will need to measure the height of the neck on the eprouvette or other glass-made container. The diameter of the hole inside the stopper is your third dimension and that is the thickness of the pipe that you will try to connect the glass with.
