While minus fifty is roughly the coldest temperature at which the Viton rubber gasket will not be damaged, and lags behind silicone, the upper temperature limit is by far the highest. The Viton rubber gasket can be exposed to temperatures of over 300 degrees Celsius, close to 315 degrees Celsius and you can be sure that it will not be damaged. In the case of intermittent contact with these temperatures, the operating temperature to which it can be exposed at all times is around 250 degrees Celsius.
That is why the Viton rubber gasket is primarily used in the oil industry, mining and similar places where it can come into contact with flammable chemicals, explosive gases and fuels. It has great ozone resistance, resistance to acids and impermeability to gases. Viton rubber gasket will not be found in kitchen appliances as you will find some other types of rubber gasket because there is no need for this material which is certainly more expensive than Neoprene and others.
